Strand woven bamboo veneer is a unique veneer type, it is not regular bamboo veneer, like horizontal or vertical, but strand. We produce strand woven bamboo veneer in carbonized color and several other colors. The colors are not stained on surface, but deep inside of bamboo strips, from surface to inside. We sliced strand woven bamboo block into 0.6mm and due to the special characteristic of strand woven bamboo, we can‘t make it in 2500 x 1250mm, only with 1860mm length and 138mm, 410mm width.

Bamboo veneer major material is Moso bamboo which is famous in the earth for its strength and straightness, sliced from laminated bamboo blocks by using exclusive patented technology. Bamboo veneer is an innovative and elegant addition to the world of interior decoration and furniture design. This material offers a unique design concept and works well for a wide range of interior uses including architectural panels, countertops, furniture, millwork, cabinetry, and store fixtures.

Bamboo Veneer Manufacturing Process:

Step 1: Treatment with bamboo strips. After harvesting, bamboo pole is cut into stalks and strips. All strips need be boiled in a water and boric acid solution. This removes sugars from the stalks which is necessary because sugars attract termites. This boiling process also stops the growth of fungus and mold. With few hours boiling, bamboo strips will be sent into dry kiln to get a very low moisture content - less than 10%, too wet strips are not possible for gluing and pressing.

Step 2: Laminated bamboo into blocks. After well-processed for strips, bamboo will be glued with a urea-formaldehyde (UF) adhesive which emits very low volatile organic compound (VOC). Glued bamboo strips are laminated into layers of board by a 1200-ton presser with hot steam. The big blocks will be conditioned and soaked for two weeks.

Step 3: Slicing, drying and backing. After soaked, bamboo blocks are soft and easy to be sliced into veneer sheets. All sliced sheets are still wet and need be dried before backing with cellulose fleece which gives the veneer more stability and strength. Producing un-backed veneers is possible, but very fragile and hard to transport, this can result in a lower yield due to damaged material.

Step 4: Veneer joining and color selection. Original veneer width after slice is 430mm and 3 sheets are to be joined by Kuper Longitudinal splicer to achieve 1250mm width. All sheets with defects are selected out and extremely light or dark colours are sorted out and marked on cartons.

Bamboo Veneer Features:

1) Flexible and strong (Backed with Cellulose fleece)

2) Bonded with D3 water-resistant PVAc glue, which has good resistance against temperature and humidity

3) High tear resistance combined with high flexibility

4) No penetration of glue, bonds well with different types of glue: PVA, hotmelt, contact adhesives
